We all want to live our very best life – the life we have always imagined for ourselves. We dream of a certain career or business, a specific bank balance, happiness in our relationships, personal and spiritual fulfillment and so much more.
One of the most important things we can do to move us towards our best life is to invest in our own development – personally and professionally. Committing to spend time and money to better ourselves ripples throughout every area of our lives, changing us for the better.
Here are the three main ways investing in yourself changes your life:
Find Your Passion – When you invest in yourself and take the time to learn new skills or deepen your knowledge in a particular area, it can lead you to discover a new passion. Scratching the surface of something doesn’t always give you what you need to truly understand how you feel about it. Think about a first date that didn’t go well, but you still agreed to meet again and that second meeting changed your perception of the other person. Investing your time and resources to dig deep into a subject can often lead you to a new hobby or career that fuels you in a new way. Finding something new that you are passionate about and that drives you can make you happier, give you more joy, and potentially provide you with more income.
Increase Your Confidence – Expertise builds confidence in any area. As your knowledge and skill grows, it will be evident in the way you speak and your attitude about the subject matter. Others will see the effort you have put forth to learn and develop and will recognize you as a leader in the field. Feeling comfortable with your knowledge and having others respect you for your knowledge lead you to be more self-assured, increasing your status as an expert. This cycle is created and strengthened by your investment in yourself and your personal growth.
Control Your Destiny – At the end of the day, you are in charge of what happens to you. Whether or not you succeed or fail, you are happy or unhappy, you live in abundance or lack. Whether your desire is to be a millionaire or just to have enough for financial stability, you have the ability to direct your destiny. Investing in yourself gives you the tools, knowledge and mindset you need to have everything you want. Just like you can’t build a house without the right tools, you can’t build your perfect life without them either.
Jim Rohn said, “Of all the things that can have an effect on your future, I believe personal growth is the greatest. We can talk about sales growth, profit growth, asset growth, but all of this probably will not happen without personal growth.”
Sales, profit and assets all require investments of time or resources to increase and flourish. Personal growth is the same. And like financial investments, the sooner you start the more return you will get over your lifetime.
