We are a nation of people who are geared and determined to succeed.
Perhaps it is in our history. So many people came to America with nothing. Using their minds, their skills and their backs they became rags-to-riches stories. They instilled that drive to succeed in their children and grandchildren. It is as much a part of us as the air we breathe. Perhaps it is that drive that is born in us that pushes us to success. Or perhaps it is something more.
When we observe a business owner who is experiencing success and growth inevitably we will see one attribute. He exhibits a passion that is evident in everything he does. He is focused on his goal. He surrounds himself with people that share his passion and the atmosphere is almost electric. It is not his job that drives him. He knows to succeed the way he wants to succeed, he has to work harder and work smarter. He is not ruled by the clock. He is in control of his destiny and whether it is noon or midnight is of little importance when it comes to reaching his destination.
He has little tolerance for mediocrity. He knows what he is capable of and he knows what it is going to take to get there. He will not let anyone slow him down. In the business arena that translates much more to the people who service him than to the people he services. He strives for perfection. Not for one second will a vendor hamper him. He considers his word to be his bond. If someone misleads him making his word appear tarnished, he will cut them off at the knees. He wants to make his mark on the world. When someone thinks of him, he wants them to think of success.
He doesn’t care if something is impossible. He can think of several impossible things he has already accomplished. It is not about money. He could make money in virtually any field he chooses. It is about his dream, his passion, and his obsession. He will make it from point A to point B. He will take risks that other people wouldn’t dream of. He never sees failure as an option. And when someone points out something they believe is a failure, he proves it is just a change in plans and a new opportunity. Failure is never final.
There are people who view obsession as an illness. I suppose in a few cases it could go too far. But for the most part, a person who is obsessed with success is a natural born leader, who lives with a gut full of courage and hunger for life.
