You just came up with a new business idea and you are super excited to launch it everywhere and start telling everyone. You start doing videos, messaging your friends, and telling your family. You have never been more excited in your entire life to start something!
Nobody is responding the way that you thought they would.
You realize that people are not liking your message, old friends are criticizing you, and no one is supportive.
Wait a second… what happened?!
I thought everyone would support me because I am going after what I believe in. Am I saying the right message? Does my logo look right? Sorry to say, but there is nothing you can do about it. Many will not believe in your vision including your friends and family. Personally, I have gone through, and continue to go through this.
You have to understand that people are not accustomed to seeing things outside of the norm. Whatever you are pursuing, whether it’s starting a new business, doing daily videos on social media, moving to a new state, or even changing career paths, you will shake people up because they do not know how to react to an anomaly. Also understand that people sometimes do not resonate with your message and that’s OK! You do not need everyone to like your message, all you need to do is be consistent and find the people that do need your message.
For example, when I first started doing motivational videos on Facebook, posting images of inspiration on Instagram, and doing Periscopes, a lot of people did not understand what I was doing. Most of my family members and friends, to this day, think what I am doing holds no merit and will not lead me anywhere worth going. I disagree. I know in my heart that speaking is my gift to the world.
If you find that gift, DO NOT disregard it and act like it is no big deal. We are all given talents to make the world a better place. I may not be the biggest speaker in the world, however, I already know that I will get where I am headed because I found my gift.
Listen to your inner voice and make your dreams come true. Tune out the external noise because they do not know what is going on in your heart. It is like having a bunch of bees in your ear.
SWAT THEM AWAY!!!
Think about it, do these people live in your head or know your inner passions? No! So, there is zero reason you should be listening to them. People will tell you not to do certain things because, those things exist beyond a place we call the “comfort zone”. There is nothing in that comfort zone except a mediocre life and mediocre results. By all means, if you are OK with that, stay in that zone. However, if you want a certain lifestyle, results, and relationships, you better get out of there! No greatness was ever achieved in the comfort zone and no legend was born listening to external voices.
Follow your heart’s voice, instead of the voice from your surroundings. The best way to ignore the noise is to tune into your own voice and believe that you can do it!
This Steve Jobs quote sums up everything:
“Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice.”
